Participate in Our Clinical Registry for Equine Asthma

Do you have a patient in your practice that has been diagnosed with asthma? Zomedica is sponsoring a Clinical Registry.

Watch Dr. Beau Whitaker discuss how shock wave with the PulseVet device improves clinical signs in horses with equine asthma.

Evidence-Based Improvement in Equine Asthma

Clinical research has shown that extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) using the PulseVet device can significantly improve clinical signs in horses diagnosed with mild to moderate equine asthma.

To date, 58 horses have completed treatment for respiratory conditions, and there have been no reported adverse events.

“We’ve observed measurable reductions in respiratory effort, cough frequency, and overall clinical signs following ESWT treatment. It’s a promising adjunct therapy for managing equine asthma.”

Dr. Beau Whitaker, DVM

Treatment Protocol
Treating Equine Asthma Using the PulseVet Device

For each treatment session, apply 1,000 pulses per side using the 80mm trode at energy setting E8. Avoid the heart area and focus on the lower respiratory region of the ribcage.

Treatment Zones

Begin treatment at the back of the rib cage in the 17th intercostal space and work:

  • Cranially (toward the head) as far as the back of the scapula
  • Cranioventrally to the top of the heart-avoidance zone

This region targets the lower lung fields, where asthma-related inflammation is most pronounced.

Why Participate in the Clinical Registry?

Joining the PulseVet Equine Asthma Clinical Registry gives your practice the opportunity to contribute to important veterinary research while receiving valuable product credit.

Clinic Benefits

  • Enhance client trust by offering evidence-based, non-invasive care for chronic respiratory conditions
  • Advance the field of equine medicine by contributing to meaningful clinical outcomes research

Requirements

  • Participation in three scheduled visits per horse (Week 0, Week 2, and Week 4–6)
  • Completion of a short set of assessment forms at each visit
